Transfer Policies

Lakota Safe Company LLC will handle the transfer of a firearm on your behalf from individuals or FFL dealers.
Our transfer policies are below.  Please read them in their entirety before contacting us.
Please feel free to give us a call if  you have any additional questions that are not addressed in these written policies.

Transferring A Firearm From A FFL Dealer

It is the Buyers’ responsibility to request that your Seller (FFL) contact us directly by email and  enclose a copy of their current FFL (Federal Firearms License), along a copy of the bill of sale, with the Buyer’s name, phone number and email address,  so we may contact you once your firearm arrives.

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE FOR BUYERS

  1. Buyer informs the Seller (FFL) to contact Lakota Safe Company LLC via email at [email protected]
  2. FFL Seller emails Lakota Safe Company LLC the following information:
    • A electronic copy of their current full FFL License
    • The Buyers name, address, phone, and email address, along with a copy of the bill of sale.

*NOTE: LAKOTA SAFE COMPANY | TRADING POST STAFF WILL NOT INITIATE FIRST CONTACT WITH YOUR SELLER (FFL) TO OBTAIN THEIR FFL LICENSE. IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER.


RECEIVING FFL FIREARMS INVENTORY REQUIREMENTS

There is a formal process we must follow before you can pick up your firearm.  The ATF requires that we inventory every incoming firearm into our Electronic Bound Book Inventory System.
We will call you once your firearm has been received into our ATF Electronic Bound Book Inventory System. This takes place within 1-2 business day of receipt of your firearm.
During busy times this may take a little longer. Please understand that we have large quantity of guns to process each week and our staff works diligently to ensure that each one is received in a timely manner while staying in compliance with all State and Federal regulations.
If you are receiving accessories or ammunition with your firearm, please request that the dealer send non-serialized items directly to your home. We are unable to inventory and keep track of non-serialized items that are not invoiced directly to our company.
Additional fees may be charged to you, for receiving additional packages that are not in the box with your firearm.

Transferring A Firearm From An Individual (Non-FFL)

Federal law DOES allow an individual to ship a firearm through common carrier, as long as the receiving party has a valid FFL. The individual shipping the firearm MUST enclose a copy of their State Photo Identification along with the purchaser’s name and phone number.

*Note: we are unable to send a copy of our FFL License to anyone (including the buyer) other than other verified FFL.


STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE FOR BUYERS

  1. Buyer informs the Seller (non-FFL) to contact Lakota Safe Company LLC via email at [email protected]
  2. Non-FFL Seller sends  Lakota Safe Company LLC by email [email protected], the following information:
    • Scanned readable copy of their current State Government Photo Drivers License
    • The “Buyer’s” name, address, phone, and email address, along with a copy of the original bill of sale.
    • *NOTE: IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE ALL OF THIS INFORMATION FROM THE NON-FFL IN ADVANCE, WE WILL REFUSE TO RECEIVE THE SHIPMENT AND HAVE THE SHIPPING CARRIER RETURN THE PACKAGE TO THE SENDER.
  3. Non-FFL will need to call our store location and ask for the first 3 and last 5 digits of our FFL License
  4. Non-FFL can confirm the validity of our FFL license by by visiting https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/

Pricing

Pricing is listed below and are non-negotiatable. This FFL Transfer fee includes the FDLE background check fee (currently $5.00) required on all firearm transfers.
After the initial 30 days, an additional $25 storage fee will be added to the price of the transfer fee.  The additional $25 storage fee will be incurred for every month beyond the first month,  that the firearms sits in storage.
After 90 days, the item(s) will be considered abandoned and becomes the sole property of Lakota Safe Company LLC.

Outgoing Transfers

As a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer, we are only able to ship firearms to other Federal Firearms Licensed Dealers.  We cannot ship directly to any non-FFL individuals.

Once we have received payment for your item, we will need YOU to find a dealer in your State of Residence, to ship it to.

We will be happy to locate a dealer to receive your transfer based on a ship to zip code, if you do not have one.
We can assist you with additional services:
  • Transfer a firearm between individuals (Private Party Transfer Sale)
  • Send out a firearm for gunsmith work or customization
  • Send off for warranty repair

CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES

The customer is responsible for preparing their own firearm(s) for shipment. 
Customer must purchasing an approved shipping container; customer must securing the firearm in an approved shipping box with internal padding materials, and label the shipping box.

FFL RESPONSIBILITIES

And once the FFL inventories the firearm into the FFL ATF Bound Book, the FFL will seal the package, measure and weight the box to determine exact shipping costs to the destination.
The FFL will arrange for direct shipping via one of our shipping partners.

SHIPPING, INSURANCE AND ADDITIONAL FEES

We utilize UPS, USPS and FedEx for shipping. We require our shipper to use second day air service to ship handguns.  Long guns (rifle and shotguns) may be shipped ground.
Prices vary depending on the part of the country the shipment is being sent to, amount of insurance you would like on the item, and size and weight of the firearm.
Shipping must include “adult signature required” which is an additional fee charged by shippers,  and our base shipping fees do not not include “adult signature required” nor insurance on the product shipment.  You must elect the amount of shipping insurance prior to the shipment.

Lakota Safe Company LLC does not pay for ANY insurance on the shipment.

We will need all of this information in order to quote you accurate shipping costs.
*Firearms purchased at Lakota Safe Company LLC location that requires shipment for warranty repair are not subject to the $35 FFL transfer fee. Shipping and handling charges may be incurred.

STORE POLICY

  • Must pay FFL transfer fee in full (cash only – no credit cards, debits card or personal checks).
  • Must complete and sign ATF Form 4473 (Inbound only)
  • Must pass the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) background check (Inbound only).  The FDLE Background Check Fee of $5.00 is included in the FFL Transfer Fee.

ADDITIONAL FFL SERVICES

FFL FDLE Stolen Firearms Check

  • $10 for the first firearm (cash only – no credit cards, debits card or personal checks).
  • $5 for each additional firearms, checked at the same time as the first firearm (cash only – no credit cards, debits card or personal checks).
  • NOTE: Any firearms identified as stolen by FDLE, must be reported to the Orange County FL Sheriff’s Department – No Exceptions

Other Exclusions

  • Due to the high incidence of “Straw Purchasers” of firearms receivers in the State of Florida, we are limiting our FFL transfers to two (2) rifle lower receivers or two (2) rifle uppers per transfer,  per customer.
  • Law Enforcement Agencies are exempt from this policy.
