PREREQUISITES

Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a prequisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates must complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.

DESCRIPTION

This course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Pistol Shooting course.

Course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet and NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course student packet.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Student must be age 21 or older. Bring driver’s license.

  • No one is allowed to attend the classroom or range portion who is not a registered student. Exception: any escort or caretaker for a disabled student.

  • No children are allowed in the classroom or on the shooting range.

    A waiver must be signed.

  • ALL LIVE AMMO SHALL BE LEFT IN YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL THE RANGE PORTION OF THE COURSE. THIS INCLUDES ANY CONCEALED CARRY FIREARM.

  • Range: no open toe shoes, sandals or low-cut tops.

  • Bring water, sunscreen, hat and portable chair for use at the shooting range.


STUDENT PROVIDED MATERIALS

  • Quality Pistol appropriate for concealed carry – recommend minimum of 9mm or .38 Special.

  • Quality Strong Side Hip Holster – recommend form fitted leather or kydex, must cover trigger/trigger guard.

  • Quality Belt, designed to carry a holster and a firearm strongly recommended.

  • Quality ammunition suitable for practice. Students should have at least 300 rounds.

  • Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches – at least two additional (3 total).

  • Clothing appropriate for concealed carry.

  • Eye protection.

  • Hearing protection – recommend electronic.

You must certify that you are NOT A Restricted Individual Under Florida State Statute.
